Given the fact that OS/2.11 -- with and without fixpacks -- has only a 640x400 resolution due to the scarcity of video drivers, at Metztli Information Technology we decided to upgrade a best effort fixpaked OS/2 2.11 SMP to what IBM termed as OS/2 Warp 4 Advanced Server with SMP.
Actually, nevertheless, it is OS/2 Warp 3 on steroids (without the negative effects associated with humans ;-). I subsequently applied the fixpack 43 to the base system and upgraded the MPTS stack. Oh, indeed, fixpack 43 satisfied the IBM Gradd 97 video driver requirements to provide a 1024x768 video resolution shown. [Thank you to Hobbes OS/2 Archive]
Update: Sometime at the begining of April, 2022, I succeeded in creating an OS/2 2.11 SMP Bootable CD/ISO image which can be installed within ten(10) minutes into a VirtualBox 6.1.32 (my build version at the time) type 2 hypervisor instance. It can, theoretically, be used as a base for upgrading to OS/2 Warp 3 SMP Advanced Server. Of course, VirtualBox is able to manipulate a 2.88 boot floppy image -- which has been 'integrated' into this OS/2 2.11 CD/ISO image to make it bootable -- by adding/deleting specific drivers if/when the target is a physical SMP machine. The resulting image may then be 'burned' to physical CD media to be inserted into the CDROM device and installed into an bare metal SMP machine. The core/CPU count is at least eight(8) -- as shown in the link -- since it reflects the existing cores in my actual physical test machine.
